Repairing Cracked Brace

Hi guys,

When I was in the process of moving my 4'6" tank to my new house, I somehow managed to crack the brace that runs across the top of the front of the tank.

Now, I've bought a piece of 6mm float glass, which is the same size as the brace, but only half the length, due to the centre brace being joined to the front brace.

I plan on siliconing this piece of glass to the underside of the current brace, rather than replacing the existing one, as it would be sooo much work to remove and replace it.

The new piece of glass will fit snuggley inbetween the centre brace (which attaches to the bottom of the current front brace), and the side of the tank.

Will this be strong enough ?!?

My initial thoughts are as long as there is a very good silicone joint between the two braces then it will be strong enough.

is the tank full now?

If it is then the brace wont be doing its job (which will be to stop the fron bowing) idealy you should drain the tank and repair.

Tank is currently still sat outside waiting for me to repair it !!!

Been badgered today to get it sorted out and set-up !! There's a 1st, Em wanting me to actually set-up a tank rather than dismantle it !!!

Will see what I can do tomorrow

Your suggested repair should be fine. Be sure to clean the area of contact thoroughly before applying the silicone (I tend to use meths, as it evaporates quickly), and leave to cure for at least 48 hours.

Cheers for the tip on the Meths windsor I've got a bottle in my shed from when I used to go camping with a good old Trangia stove !!!

Not going to have chance to do it for a couple of weeks now
