Hi you all

This is a quick guide for anyone wanting to breed bettas. Firstly you need a male betta and a female betta. (Do not add more than one male they will fight to the death). It is reccomended that you add around 2 -3 females to your male. When your female is ready to mate she will have vertical stripes. Your male will begin to build a bubblenest. (This is done in an area where no current is present so plants may be needed to stop current).

When your betta is satisfied with his nest he will swim in circles around with your female When hes in the right position he does his thing and goes and collects that fall. It will apear that your female is dead!!. She is not she is simply stunned she will be back in no time. The male will continue to get the eggs out off her untill there are none left. The male will now gaurd the eggs untill they hatch. (Never look at the betta gaurding his eggs. He will think your trying to eat them and because he doens't knpow your not he will eat them himself for nutrients).

Now when you have eggs in your bubblenest it is reccomended to do one of three things to give the fry a chance.

1. Heavily plant a tank so the fry can hide. Feed the fry finley crushed flakes.

2. Put a breeding net around the eggs.

3. Seperate the eggs into a different tank. NOTE...Only remove 90% of the eggs so the betta has something to gaurd.

I believe that the best fry food is...hard boil an egg. Now get a spoon and add about the amount of 2 rice grainulls of yellow yolk on the spoon (hard boilded) now get some water and squish it aorund so you get a mixture now feed them that daily. Later you can get to other foods. It takes about 3 months to have yrou bettas ready for sale.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

hiya, well i have quoted this topic 4 u, as it was pinned, and tells u not 2 move the betta male until the eggs have hacked, as he will be keeping guard of them. it also tells u not 2 look at him, cus he will think that ur after his eggs, and will eat them himself to protect them from being eaten by you.

hope this helps, and happy breeding!

can you move the male betta when the eggs are fertilized and in the nest?
depends on the temperment of your male. ideally you keep the male in the tank until the fry are swimming horizontally as a big part of the male's job when they hatch is picking them off the bottom when they drop and don't know how (or have the strength) to swim back up to the surface. if you remove the male because he is a confirmed egg eater then you should lower the water level to around an inch and a half until the fry have hatched as this at least gives them a chance to get to the surface easily. water should slowly be added back afterwards of course when they have hatched. as for putting nets around the eggs etc. it's best not to disturb them at all actually, thats why we use half a styrofoam cup floating in the tank (looks like a floating cave), the male will instinctively build his nest under it as it acts a shelter. this will keep your eggs in one place.
