depends on the temperment of your male. ideally you keep the male in the tank until the fry are swimming horizontally as a big part of the male's job when they hatch is picking them off the bottom when they drop and don't know how (or have the strength) to swim back up to the surface. if you remove the male because he is a confirmed egg eater then you should lower the water level to around an inch and a half until the fry have hatched as this at least gives them a chance to get to the surface easily. water should slowly be added back afterwards of course when they have hatched. as for putting nets around the eggs etc. it's best not to disturb them at all actually, thats why we use half a styrofoam cup floating in the tank (looks like a floating cave), the male will instinctively build his nest under it as it acts a shelter. this will keep your eggs in one place.cichlid freak said:can you move the male betta when the eggs are fertilized and in the nest?
