Removing Filter From Aquarium

Hi guys,

My tank has been nicely cycled for about 2-3 weeks now and it has 2 filters in there. My Black Moor and Oranda are in the aquarium, I was thinking of moving the sponge filter media from the old smaller filter into the larger Bio-Max Cartridge so it's crammed in there with the little Bio-Max Capsules. Would I put my tank into a cycle by removing this small filter, it's only a little internal rated for a 40 litre, it was partially cycled so that's why I put it in there with my Fluval U2.

I'm only really doing this to remove the strong currents it produces in the aquarium. The Fish find it hard to eat at the surface and get thrown all over the place!

What should I do?

cant u turn the flow rate down of the internal or face the outlet at the side of the tank. as for moving all the media from the internal and placing it in your external i think this would be fine as long as the flowrate of the external isnt compromised. in theory by moving 100% of the media from internal to external you should lose any bacteria and the tanks stage of cycling should be the same. but in practice its something i would avoid for a couple of weeks. if its just a problem when feeding why dont you just turn off the internal , then switch it back on when feeding has finished.
