I have the filters with the carbon in them. Do I still need to remove it? I've read mixed opinions on this. Does the ich go into the filter itself? I was just going to replace them.

yup, you need to remove them - otherwise they will absorb the medication before it's had a chance to take effect (unless the carbon is already exhausted, but you wont know that anyway so best to remove them completely)

If you have the kind that has the carbon inside the floss, you can cut open the floss packet and dump out the carbon. This way you keep the benefits of the filter without the carbon. If the carbon is more than a few weeks old, it's not going to matter anyway since it will already be saturated.
