Got 8+ ppm ammonia coming from the tap. What works best to get rid of it before I put the water in the tank?

 Are you sure about that reading? Have you had it verified by someone else's test kit? I'm not sure I'd be drinking water that has that much ammonia!

Anyway, "Prime" is a product that claims to remove ammonia, chlorine, and chloramine, as well as neutralizing nitrite and nitrate. I have some on hand for emergencies, but never had to use it. Ammo-lock is another one that's supposed to remove the ammonia.

If the quality of the tap water is that bad use RO water it's pure and all u need is some re-minerals and then u've got safe high quality water.

ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, PH, Hardnes(KH & GH), copper, iron, calciun are some of the things u can test for but who knows wot else u have in the water.

U can get RO water from ur LFS and if ur water isn't meaterd then u can get an RO unit.

No way could 8ppm amonia be cumin from your taps!!!!!

I would ring your water co and tell them to sort it out!!!!!!!
That cant be doing you any good to drink!

Sounds like a case for Erin Brockovich!!!
