I've had a tank set up for three years. At one point I decided to reduce the water level in it a bit because my wife and I found the sound of water falling into the tank to be relaxing. Since then, I've raised the water level again because I think it looks better. The problem is that in the time that the water level was lowered, minerals from the water bonded and solidified on the exposed glass, forming a hard and apparently extremely insoluble compound. Thankfully, it is nearly clear, but at the top of the tank in some areas I can notice a blurring due to this solid. It will not scrub off with anything. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to remove it without me having to completely drain the tank and treat the affected area with concentrated HCl, which will probably do the trick, but is a pathway I'd much rather avoid.
