Does anyone know what petco does with their baby fish? I called and asked but it sounded weird, they said they adopt them out...they don’t sell them with the rest of the fish. What does that mean exactly? I’ve never seen fish up for “adoption” there.

I just want to make sure they don’t flush them or use them for food :)

When people relinquish pets there, they typically set up a seperate environment in a certain area for them. They will either sell the animal at a reduced price(I believe they give the money to charity) or give them away for free. So they don’t really make any money from selling them.

With fish they may place them in a tank in the aquatics section though. I don’t think they’d kill them, but who knows, it Petco. You could always ask them a few more specific questions like where they house them and such.

I can't comment on PetCo's policies but we use to take in young or unwanted fish and put them in plant tanks to grow a bit. And if customers wanted them we either gave them away or sold them, depending on how big the fish were.

Good to know! Thank you!

In the meantime, I have found my little fishy a home
