I'm waiting to two 36" relectors to be delivered and was wondering how much of a differnece they will actually make...

Can you put a figure on the difference it will make to a bulb?

I currently have 4 X 30W bulbs for a 47.5 G aquarium, which is just over 2.5 WPG.

I'm assuming that a reflector will up the effectiveness by around 50% which would be the equivalent of 2 X 30 & 2 X 45 taking me to just over 3.1 WPG.

Does that sound about right?

I just recently added some to my one tank - the difference was huge ! I straight away noticed everything brighten up. As to the "figure" I don't know, but have seen some calculation somwhere....

supposedly doubles the light amount hitting the water

yup me too, i dont even double my WPG when i count in my reflector, i just consider it as an extra boost :p but it did help my plants grow a heck lot faster and pearl earlier :)

btw when i got my reflectors i instantly had to rework my schedule for dosing ferts

Even if your reflector is absolutely perfectly designed to reflect light efficiently, most reflector materials (White plastic, white paint, alluminum, ect) are 90-95% efficent.

I assume 35% extra light with a good reflector.

Well whatever measurement you take, I'll still have the equivalent of around 3 WPG which is what I was aiming for.

Thanks for the info
