Ok so I got 2 new females today so now I have 3... I know you guys said I need at least 4 but there werent any I liked. I am going to get 1 more as soon as more come in but for the time being I only have 3.
So what behaviour is normal and what is not?
Thanks :)

Hi

Do you mean normal behavior as in they are all together in the tank or normal behavior what do you do with the girls now that you have them ready to go in the tank?

From what I know you should add the girls all together. If you add 3 then put in a 4th later, the other 3 will pick on her a lot. I also highly recommend quarentining any new fish for at least a week. I bought 3 girls and put them into my 10 gal only to have all 3 get deathly ill and then died from columnaris. I am pretty sure one passed it along to all the rest.

Hey,
There already in the tank so I cant really quarantine... What I mean by normal behaviour is that now that there in the tank what should or should not they be doing?
And if I decide to get another one (when I find one) is that ok? Like by changing stuff in the tank and stuff like that...
Thanks :)

Ok and another question - There was this one female betta who was missing an eye... When I noticed it and told the lfs they took her out and said they were going to quarantine her. I have been told from 2 of the same store in different cities that they do quarantine so I do believe them.
My question is that since shes missing an eye if I were to go back and get her would there be any diseases associated with that?
Or should she not go in my 5 gallon but in a separte tank?
Thanks :)

When buying another girl, just take everyone out. rearrange everything and add everyone back in one after another. As for their behavior now, they should be just swimming around merrily, with an occasional nip here and there. Watch for an serious fighting though. Just b/c the fish has one eye doesn't mean it's carrying anything, but if you want to buy it look over it well just in case. If you don't notice anything I'd say it'd be ok to put her in with the others.

I did look at her long and hard and now I regret not getting her. She seems ok other than she only had 1 eye. Also she let the girl at the lfs just pick her up in her hand so could that mean shes sick?
I also noticed that the other girls in the tank were kinda picking on her. Like since she couldnt see out of that one eye the other girls would sneak up on her and nip her...
She was a pretty little thing - She was a butterfly girl  Maybe if I can I will go back and get her if shes still there... I mean she should still be in the quartine...I cant get her today but maybe tomorrow I will...
Im just concerned with her carrying disease. I dont want her infecting my other pretty girls. I really want to show you guys a picture but I just cant get any good ones.. with or without the flash...Ill have to ask the boyfriend to get the pictures...
Oh and my 3 girls are swimming around merrily! So far so good :D

I can pick up my girl in my hand as well, and my boys too, when I need to remove them from their tanks. They are almost hand tamed :p She is more passive than the boys though.

Buy her and watch her for a couple of days, and if she adjusts fine and doesn't show signs of anything I am sure things will be okay. And like another member said, remove them all, rearrange, and add all 4 at the same time.

I think it would be sweet of you to buy the eyeless little girl

Well I just called back the store and someone bought her..... Im disapointed but I guess she wasent meant for me.... I really regreat not getting her now... Damn it!!! :grr:

I know that must be frustrating, but she'd at least be better off sold than culled, right? A lot of stores would probably just flush her live rather than going to the bother of isolating her and selling her anyway. Doesn't make it any easier for you, though, I'm sure. Good luck hunting down a fourth

Hey,
Thats what I was thinking too. At least now she has a home, hopefully with people who will look after her well....
Im still kicking myself for not getting her though  I guess everything happens for a reason, thats the way I look at things ;)

Oh believe me, I understand the frustration ;) I experienced it myself just today- I was convinced that I would never own a betta again after I lost my Snapdragon, but then just today I found two pairs of gorgeous copper delta sibs on Aquabid. They were utter perfection- I was sooo psyched, and I was all set to bid. I just sent her an e-mail asking a question about what currency the listing was in, and then I was planning my new female tank, the boys' barracks- everything.

Then I heard back from her, and while the currency issue got settled, it was kind of a moot point because she had to break it to me that someone had used some bleach in the same bucket that she used to set her water in overnight, and when she was changing the jars this morning, she didn't notice it in time. She lost a breeder as well as what were going to be my babies :-( I think I was even more upset than she was, lol, though with e-mail it's hard to tell.

Anyway, yes. I'm still trying to console myself that it happened for a reason, so we can be in this together if you like ;)

Yes, that defentally sounds like a plan! We can ***** to each other

rotfl sounds like a plan. I'm still at the weepy stage myself, but as soon as I'm ready to get snarky I'll letcha know :p (actually I'm hoping that just as I start to sulk it'll be time to get my convicts; that way I'll have a diversion, lol)

Thank you *sniffles and wallows*

an hour more and I'd have named them lol -->
