Releasing Fry

i currently have a number of fry in a breeding box on the side of the tank, two of them are around the 10mm mark now maybe a little larger, would it be safe to release them into the tank? i only have platies and mollies in? or should i wait til theyre larger?

depending on size of ur adult fish depends on weather want 2 risk it if ur confident they cant get them in the mouths then give it a try otherwise wait another couple of weeks or so just 2 be on the safe side.

I think id wait another week.
When i kept livebearers i let the fry out at around 1.5 cm
That gives them a good chance to survive then.

well i let two of my fry out just pver 10mm long and disaster, the paties started chasing them, ate one straight away, nasty fish, and i havent seen the other one since, and i thought id have a problem with overcrowding

are guppies like this? are they cannibals too?!?!!

im tempted to get rid of all the platies and mollies and just have guppies as i wanted a harmoneous tank

you could put a few in to test,but it should be okay, i have a platy bout 10mm thats in my main tank with lots of angelfish and mine is fine

oh yes guppys will chase and eat fry too. mine are right monsters, if I want fry they have to be seperated until they are too big for the adults to rip apart.

if want to keep a all guppy tank just feed them plenty of food and have plenty of plants or plastic plant for the fry to hide. some of the fry from the first brood will survive and the adults will get use to having babies in the tank with them. when they have their next brood they should leave them alone.

That is good advice and seems to be true for quite alot of livebearers.

At this time of year, there are loads of mosquito larvae. You could try packing the tank full of mosquito larvae before releasing the fry.
