Hi All,

HAve just bought a new Rekord 96 tank. It came with one of those new foam style backgrounds, and it looks great.

I've filled it and started the Pumps/FIlters etc , but i'm not sure if the filter is fully working. It doesn't seem to move the water very well(But it does move), and the top white foam pad seems to lift slightly....on occasion

Is this normal? i haven't owned one of these before am unsure if this is the norm, or if the foam backing is interfering with the filtration system, as it covers over one of the lower rear vents.

Any advice would be most appreciated, thanks very much

Cheers

Firstly hi and welcome! :)
I have the rekord 60 and the standard pump, the pump on that model is rubbish so id guess that the one for the other models is aswell. As long as the white sponge can block the large particles that are sucked in it should be okay. I have removed the filter in mine for my cory fry although i was planning to replace it with a different filter anyway!
Once again welcome and ill cya around :D

Cheers mate, When your old 60 was running, was the movement quite visible? Or did it not seem to make much difference to the water flow? I don't have anything in the tank yet tat could leave trace dirt on the filter, bu ti assumed if it was running at strength, the top white pad shouldn't really lift as it would be sucked down towards the base of the unit?
Thanks very much for your quick response
:)

Hiya FOXYDM and :hi: , I have a 96 and had a problem with the white polypad , tomake it sit flat on the filter make sure you tuck it under the power head, it should hold then. Regarding the water flow, try angling the outlet tube towards the surface more, this should get things moving. Best of luck :)

Thanks V much.
I have angled to outlet up toward the top of the tank and it seems to be moving better now.
I just figured that the suction through the top of the filter would have been greater than it actually is.
Also, the tank has been runing now for 24 hours, and the water appears to be cloudier than when i started., is this due to the filter system kicking in?
Thanks all for your help. Much appreciated

I have been considering the thick Juwel background for my tank ( the one that you silicon on or something).. anyone else used it as well as FOXYDM that could comment on whether it looks good when the tank is stocked.. i have a juwel rio 180..

The cloud should clear within the next day or so, I had cloudy water for a couple of days. everything will settle soon :)

Good News-Thanks very much.
Keep you all posted as to when i stock!

Does anyone have any recommendations for 1st fish/Plants?
Ta

Glowlight tetras, black phantom tetras are pretty hardy fish and zebra danios, best bet is to check out some fish sites here's quite a good site http://www.elmersaquarium.com/index.htm

As for plants , java fern, , java moss, Anubias , basically low light plants as you only have one bulb, if you are using the bulb that came with the tank i suggest you replace it with the powerglow bulb as the juwel one isn't that good, another good site http://www.aquahobby.com/articles/e_lowlight.php

Good Luck :)
