I've noticed multiple fish in my tank scratch themselves on ornaments and plants before. And I've worried it was ich and examined them, only to find they look fine, no white spots.
It has occurred to three separate fish thus far, a Zebra Danio, a Panda Cory (Possibly two, they all look the same) and a Platy. None have displayed any other signs, and all have stopped after a few minutes. (This has taken place over about three weeks, one fish each week or so.)
Anyways I decided to do some research, and as it turns out apparently,
low levels of ich usually result in fish that scratch against inanimate objects in the tank, such as gravel and ornaments. Research has shown that fish can develop partial immunity to low levels of pathogens in their water and establish a tentative balance.

So I'm thinking my tank may be at equilibrium with Ich? And I'm managing to keep the parameters and quality high enough that my fish aren't suffering an outbreak.
I'm wondering if I should do a round of Ich treatment to get rid of it or just leave it and hope I never stress my fish out enough to cause a flare up?
I have Corys in my tank so I can't add salt, but I doubt just raising the temperature would be enough, and it would probably stress out my fish more than deal with the Ich.
Anyone have any experience with this or any insight on the validity of this article. It seems pretty in depth to me, but then again it doesn't actually state any scientific sources that I can go and verrify.
