"No one is a failure unless you try"
My oscar never ceases to amaze me. Honestly, I think he does a wonderful job of busting those fish myths such as fish only having a three second memory.
He used to be very very friendly toward me... he would boldly take food from my hand, hover near my arm whenever I did water changes, let me pet him, and even let me hold him still in the water (which I did once, just to see if he would allow it.) Then I upgraded his tank
Being herded into a plastic container and held in a large bucket while I set the new tank up was very stressful for him, and I know he remembers, because now he's skittish. He moves to the back of the tank when I walk up, is wary of coming to the surface near my hand during feeding time, and just generally keeps a very close eye on me. When he thinks I'm not looking he acts perfectly normal. He's gradually getting back to his old self, but I just know he's avoiding me because he's afraid I'll try to catch him and make him wait in a bucket again!
Anyone who thinks fish are dumb has never owned a cichlid is all I can say
