Refugiums

Thinking of adding a refugium. Does it have to be linked into the main tank?

yeah, it would completely defeat the object having it elsewhere.

You need your tank water going through it so that the nitates/phosphates get taken out by the macro algae. The pods and little creatures also need to eventually make their way to the main tank to become food.

Unattached to the main tank it would then be simply another marine aquarium. SH
