reed plants?

:) I def will look into them. Is that your tank in your picture if so looks very good!
Is that the results of plant growth with those lights?

(I think he also spends a fair few hours per week pruning, nipping and tucking & uses CO2 and fertilizers etc. ;) )

I thought vals can use bicarbonates as a carbon source? That is, if you have hardwater, the plants will fix the carbon out of the water itself, making sure the plants get adequate light.

Anyway, the corkscrew val(americana sp. The other twisted variety is called an Italian val) is really lovely :)

arcadia fresh water (6500K - not full spectrum)

Tut, tut Jim - you should know better

Arcadia Freshwater Lamps are 7500K and are High-Output Full-Spectrum.

sorry for the delayed reply, yes that is one of my tanks. 12G Juwel Rekord 60.

it has one arcadia freshwater (15W) and one Dennerle Special Plant (15W), one Hagen Natural Plant System (CO2), plus 2/4 hours a week of pruning plus fertaliser.

it would be wrong to point all the sucess to the tubes but without them i wouldn't get it looking as lush.

its hard to articulate what the difference is but i'll give it a go.

this pic was taken when i had one arcadia freshwater and one Original Tropical (pink light). ignore the brightness as this is due to room light/exposure but look at the detail of the plants, very bold. ie the riccia (front middle) is thick, big bubbles on the leaf tips big leaves on everything

then compare this pic and my sig pic (freshwater and dennerle)

much finer growth on the riccia, smaller fine bubbles, much more detail and intricacy in the plants. this is purely down to the light, everything else stayed the same apart from the light and a black background
