Hi, I have had 2 redtailed sharks for a few months and a while ago they didn't get along but now they swim circles around each other, swim together, and on regular occasions swim side by side like they are joint together and do a wiggle lol also I'm not sure if this is common but they both suck the tank alot but when they do there is a obvious white colour lips, i have never noticed it before so i just thought I would ask

Are they mating or just playing?

Highly unlikely in captivity, you have probably got juveniles which will probably become intolorent toward each other as they get older.

All red tail sharks (Epalzeorhynchos bicolor) are breed in captivity (Fish Farms), They are considered extinct in the wild, But it is highly unlikley they will breed in a aquarium. BUT if they do... Document it....

what size are they that will give you an idea of if they are even capable of spawning?

If you manage to get them to spawn it will be a great achievement. Female Labeo bicolor are capable of spawning at around 8cm (just about three inches ish). You would normally only get them to spawn in a very large tank with natural divisions where the fish can establish their own territory so i would be interested to see your set up. If they are spawning you should be able to see fry even if it is a community tank as the male should show brood care for the young so at least a few should survive (eggs only take about two days to hatch), also you should see very obviously that the female is swallen with eggs and after spawning she will appear much much norrower as they tend to have quite large broods.
Hope this helps.
