I have 3 questions. Ill start by telling you why Im asking the questions. My tank is only a month or two old. I've been having terrible ammonia issues and way to many dead fish for 2 months. I wanna start over almost. I basically want to re clean all the gravel and decorations and add new water and everything. Heres the questions:

1.) I have a old small tank. If i put all my fish in there with the filter w/o any gravel or anything like that, will they be fine for a few hours? I could add a heater, but its warm enough in my room that its never on anyways.

2.) Can i do something to stick the decorations to the bottom? Im kinda tired of cleaning and having to reset everything, and im sure my fish don't like it either. What about like hot glue on the bottoms?

3.) Will my baby (month old) swordtails be fine without hiding with a couple Cardinal Tetras, rasboras, and a Chinese algae eater?

1) i would try to place some of the water from the other tank in the smaller tank. then filter would be a good idea and i dont think the heater matters if you say you dont use right now anyways.

2) i dont know about hot glue. you could try something else makbye like a cock thats used on tanks.

3) i think they babys should be fine. i have tiger barbs that dont even eat my month old fry so i think it should be ok, but it also depends on how your fish are. i say you do what makes you feel safer.

also i think you might want to keep some of the gravel to keep some more bacteria.

I was planning on washing the gravel out, then putting it back in. Will this get rid of the bacteria? What should i do to save some? Take a handful and place it in my small tank? Or maybe the filter will hold enough bacteria. I dont know. THanks for your input.

wow, my barbs eat the ghost shrimp i throw in for my eels. I figured they'd eat anything they can.

I think mine should be safe, because they no longer hide in my normal tank, but im just not sure if in the new empty tank the algae eater and the others might go wild

im gonna go to the pet store and get some silicon that is used to hold the glass together. Then ill see if i can use a bit to stick the plants to the bottom. I only issues i see is ever getting them back up, but that wont be for awhile, and when i do i can pull them and cover the left over silicon with the gravel.

Does this plan sound good?
