Having nothing to do today and that i was very bored i decided to re-aquascape/decorate my 15 gallon. The tank hasnt been changed since i first put the decorations in so i felt like this would help by restarting territories with my fish and would just let the fish get a home makeover.
So this is what i was thinking, remove everything in the tank, clean all the leftover muck and then start redecorating everything. The things i had in mind were to basically flip the tank, put the things that were on the left side to the right and right to the left. But i wanted it to look good. Heres my little journal type thing i felt like creating.
Here is what my tank looked like at the start
So as you can tell i have a bamboo plant, anubias, some rocks put together to make a cave, two lava rocks, and a wood centerpiece. Then i took all the items out.
I left the wood so the fish felt a little secure and if you look in the left corner you can see all the nasty leftovers and more that got into the cracks inbetween the rocks and never got eaten. And after looking all over the tank i did not see any of the ghost shrimp i put in a few months back. Not even their shell.
Heres a little better look at the gross stuff
This is all the decorations i had in the tank minus the wood because its in the tank at the time
Heres my plants, and yes there is a little tiny bit of brazillian pennywort in there. I used to have alot of umbrella plants til i moved them into my 10g and i was planning to put them back after my algae issue went away but i liked the look of my 10g so i kept them there.
Then i decorated, i dont have individual pictures of setting up each decoration but this is the best picture i have once most of the decorations were in:
I made the cave larger for my shark and combined it with the lava rock then with the left over rocks i scattered around the tank. Then it was time for the plants. When i was putting in my anubias i noticed the roots are very long on it and i was surprised to see how strong the roots were too.
I trimmed the plants and made them look neater and then added them:
As you can see my barbs liked their shady tree:
and my shark liked his cave:
After looking at the tank i noticed it was missing something. I thought it needed some sort of plant towards the middle-left of the tank. I didnt have many plants to fill this spot so i went with plastic plants i had in my 10g when i first got the tank but i couldnt choose between two of them:
So why not add both!
This is the final setup for the tank:
Both setups of the tank i dont like too much but at least it has a new look for my fish to explore. Plus its not the same old boring tank ive been looking at for the past months. Overall this took about 2-3hours, i lost track of time but thats my guess at how long it took. Soon ill be getting my regular colored sand (the broze-ish colored) and hopefully it'll make the tank look alot nicer. Soon the two barbs and three zebra danios wont be in there anymore and theyll be in my buddies 20gallon. And eventually ill get rid of that shark, that is if his chasing continues. Hope this gives anyone ideas on how to decorate their tank!
