I recently bought what i believe to be Otos (Midget Suckermouths) and one of them has what looks like red veins down the sides of the face near the gills. Before i put him in with the other fish i would like to know if this is some sort of parasite or disease or something less sinister. I don't have a quarantine tank so an answer is needed quickly.

Cheers and sorry for the urgency

Red veins are caused by excess blood flowing to the area. It can be caused by a number of things but the most common is poor water quality followed by low oxygen levels. There is also a possibility it is a bacterial or fungal problem but that is less likely. If the fish is in a bag it is probably the first two option, poor water and low oxygen.

Need more info.
Size of tank in gallons or litries.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite,, nitrate, and ph.

Any red patches on the fish, or pools of blood bemeath the skin, any red streaking in the fins.
