Red Tailed Black Shark

I agree with sam. Your two rainbow sharks are gonna be ok together for a little while longer. usually around 3" is when they start to really show aggression.

I keep a rainbow shark with Barbs, Cardinals, Sailfin Mollies, Otocinclus, Corydoras Julii, Boeseman's Rainbowfish and a single Angel. He is 4 inch long so pretty big. He used to be really agressive until it stuck £60 worth of bog wood in the tank. Now there are so many hidding places he isn't any where near as bad. He just crusies about in and out of his are of bog wood. He only shows aggresion around dinner time but that only lasts a few mins.

I would only have one with alot!!! of hinding places in the tank...

I did a quick vid on my phone to show you my tank (and sharky of course). Pretty poor quilty but you get the idea.

I've had my RTBS fro well over 12 months now and mine was a bit of trouble to start with but i have found the right fish to keep it on track. I have it housed with Clown loach, Tiger Barbs, Cherry Barbs and golden/indian sucking loaches. The RTBS chased everything i put in but there is something to bite back he doesn't seem to do it much now, Its just the sucking loaches he fights with now(but they give as good as they get). The clowns just keep them to them selves.

As PIPER said just create some hiding places and your on to a winner TheGodfather

Very nice video... I can see how much bogwood you bought!!! Do you know if the rainbow shark is less aggressive than then red tail black shark??? I also noticed you keep him in with cardinal tetras, that is what i want to be able to do... Piper, is there any chance you could tell me if sharky has ever attacked another fish or even killed one...

Rainbows are meant to be less aggressive, although they grow bigger 6". And Rainbows are more a dark grey than the black you get with a Red Tailed Black Shark.

I would say not to sharky ever killing any one. I have had some unexplained deaths but that was when I had African Buterfly Fish. Since giving these away all has been fine.

Out of all of my fish he leaves the cardinals alone the most. He seems to go after the mollies the most.

I really do think its all down to having hiding places. And a cave(bog wood hidout) for your shark to call his own.

We had the RTS for about 6 years, before my parents took down the wall the tank was in and he ws a fair size when we inherited the tank with the house. He occasionally chased things, but never did any actual harm. He protected his area, but that was it. We had a silver shark in there too and they ignored each other.

I agree he has to have a cave, or something to call his own. There are plenty of hiding spots in my tank, but he stays in his own little area. The only time he gets grumpy is feeding time.

Reference my stock:
4 angels
4 swordtails
5 zebra danios
2 Blue Spot Gouramis
1 RTS
2 GBR's (Just added last week)

55 Gallon tank
