Hi all

I am about to order a Red Sea Prizm Skimmer for a 72" x 18" x 18" set-up, has anyone used one and will it hurt to buy it second hand? I have found a new one online for £78 but if its fine to buy a used skimmer i am all up for saving some cash.

Thanks

no they have really really poor write ups.
Many people have ran two skimers a prizm and a different make next to each other to test. They always find that the prizm way underperforms.

TMC v2 range isnt much more expensice and has much better reviews. Dont know if they are available in the US though so it depends where you live

i dont think you can buy them direct from them. My LFS deals with em aswel as a couple of other brands. They use 3 massive v2 skimmers on their system and frag tank.

if i remeber right you have just less than 500l or so
TMC v2 600 <£100

my skimmer is a tmc one. a fair bit smaller than that but it pulls some crap out. They take a while to settle/bed in though. Dont have any experience with any others. A lot of peoplelike deltec, tunze etc aswel. Try ebay for them?

Top man Ben thanks :good:

But i must have forget to mention, i need a skimmer that hangs on the side of the tank. those things go in a sump don't they?

Thanks

mine can do both, but like i said its much smaller than those. I think the one on the shops frag/ rock tank is a 600 and its huge! So i dont think it can. Was it you who had the rather cool and modern looking stand that was pretty close to the floor?

EDIT - has this on the website. Would look a tad unsightly though
The versatile design allows the V2Skim Protein Skimmer to be used either as an external "hang-on" skimmer or internally in a sump or aquarium.

Yes mate, will be updating my journal with pics very soon, the stand is a different colour now, rosewood, and the tank will be here very soon, i really need to start getting this kit  needing help from some forum mates like you to get this going :good:

to keep the look then you best order a rather large hole cutter and get drilling through the walls. Wack a sump in a shed outisde

ive looked for dimensions but i cant find any.

Im sure if i remember right its a 600 at the shop. It comes to my waist whatever it is. im 6'3 aswel
