I have bought a new set up today but the skimmer that came with it is very tempremental and very rarely bubbles. When i turn it on it sucks the water up then it comes back out down the outlet but it doesn't bubble or collect anything. It has a powerhead on the bottom. Is this what provides the bubbles? Would it just be a simple matter of replacing the powerhead? Cheers guys

Tough to say from just the description. Anyway we can get pics or a model type/number?

Have to say i had a torrid time with my Red Sea Skimmer. But as stated if you pass the model number you will get a whole heap of good advice, just as i did. Mine has now settled down - red sea prism - and sings like a bird. :hyper:

Sounds like your air inlet is clogged... Either the air hose itself, the place where it enters the powerhead, or perhaps the silencer (if one is used) must be clogged.

Just had a quick re-read of your post, so thought perhaps the obvious.

There are two "nipples" on the side of the skimmer. One you use to set the water flow up with, the second you use once the water is flowing freely?
