Hi,

I have been keeping fresh water tropicals for several years now, currently cichlid setup, I have wanted to move up to Marines for some time, and now feel I am ready.

I have been doing loads of reading and research, all over the web.

I have a couple of questions if any one can help.

Has anyone had any experience with the above skimmer, I am planning to set up a sw set up.

Juwel rio 180 tank, I am planning the hardware and doing loads of research and reading. I was wandering what the general consensus was for the above skimmer (have read totally contradicting reviews).

also, what is the recommended rate of skimming for size of tank? ie with 40imp gal/180litre.
and rate for current/powerheads.

The tank will be fish only with live rock to begin with, and as i learn and imporve, possibly mini reef, obviuosly upgrading and adding equipment along the way.

Thanks in advance.

Prizm's IMO are complete & utter **** aint worth the box they come in

Have a look at both the Deltec MCE 600 & the Aquamedic Biostar Flotor both are suitable for that size of tank (Deltec are generally concidered Better). You will need to MOD your tank lid/edge to suit these skimmers

Both of which come up on ebay from time to time :good:

Powerheads - Have a look at Seio's

I would be tempted to add
2 x M1100
or
1 x M1100 & 1 x M820

for a good turnover

I can PM you a UK supplier of Seio's if you are interested

Yeah Right ;) - I said that in the beggining as well - I lied to myself

Thanks very much for the Info, you may have just saved me from the first mistake, and saved me money in the long run.

Much appreciated

Gary

After looking into this marine tank business, I have decided to go with the same size tank as you, so I will be watching this thread with interest!!
Chac, I'm thinking of using the 17" cube as a sump, but I am a bit worried about overflowing and leaks, cna you convince me otherwise?
Sorry for the hijack!!

I have done a bit or research into the Seio's, I have found them for , m1100 £35.99 and m820 25.99,
This seems to be the cheapest I can find, but if anyone knows somewhere cheaper in the UK please let me know.

Cheers

Where you getting those good prices

thats cheaper than the place I was thinking of

I was looking into the Aquamedic Biostar Flotor with the added protien skimmer as filtration for the mini reef I am soon to create. Would I be able to use this instead of an external filter?

I had a prizm deluxe and i must admit they arent very good, would recommend getting a deltec etc.

What was you going to use the External Filter for ??

I have the same size tank, I went for the TMC V2 400 skimmer, I know its overrated but I got it on fleabay for a bargain price (plus it means I can use it on a bigger tank if I get one!!). I have also got a 4 tube T5 arcadia luminaire, already thinking of a reef tank!!
From what I hear, the prizm skimmers you will either love or hate and they get noisy over time.
