We brought 3 red platys for our new tank yesterday, but ever since we have got them home, they just hide round the back of the plastic plants and rocks.

2 of them do come out occasionally but the other dont do anything. All 3 look heathy, fin's etc all looking great, no droopyness etc.

We thought it may have been the strong current created by the filter (fluval 104) as they seem to be fighting against the current. Se we went out and putchased a spray bar, that works great and has reduced the tank current considerably.

but the fish still hide...

Any Ideas?

Im with Drawfs, let em settle in!!
Just imaging driving down the road then a huge hand moving you somewhere and you dont know where!!!
Gotta be like that to them!!!!

Give them a few days to relax. A lot of swords and platys are pond raised. They get scooped up, sorted, stuffed in a bag and sent to the fish store. Then, depending on the fish store, they get stuffed immediately into a crowded bare tank on display. It's got to be a major shock for them! They probably haven't had time to adjust to being in a tank with people, kids and or pets moving all around them.

I've got a couple of swordies that I just got Thursday, they were still in their shipping bag when I picked them out. They were in a complete panic when I brought them home. I've got them in a seperate quarentine tank with lots of hiding places and am keeping the light off most of the time. They get subdued lighting a couple of hours a day and I leave them alone the rest of the time or sit very quietly by their tank. Today they are starting to calm down and relax some and have been out cruising around a little. It's been 3 days and they are finally staying out in the open when I come over to them. Unless I move to fast and then they duck back into hiding. I figure it's going to be at least a week before they really relax.
