Hi everyone!

I recently got a red oscar, hes quite small only about 3 inches in length.

Hes in a 20 gallon by himself, and refuses to eat.

I tried kril and a variety of sinking foods. He doesnt seem to bother with it.

He spends his days in one corner, doesnt move around a lot. He often stays on his side in that corner. Is this cause for concern or is this typical oscar behaviour?

I've never had an oscar before, but have some experience with a variety of tropical fish. Any help specifically related to Oscars would be appreciated!

Thanks!

one issue i could see here is sickness
is it possible you didn't do the adaptation process slow enough when you put him in the new tank?

how about ammonia, nitrites and tank pH and temperature?

oscars usually eat anything that is edible. I have a hard time feeding the other fish in the tank as he just gobbles everything.

also, do you have like a 75 gallon tank waiting for him in about a month or two when he will ahve outgrown the 20 gallon?

I have oscars.... Your oscar should start eating in no time!! My oscars won't stop eating! I think you should get a bigger tank tooo as that oscar will get to be 14" long if you did not know that.

i have a 50 gallon waiting for him. if kept by himself will that be too small?

water temp is currently at 25C, unsure of the PH levels but the appopriate tap water treatments were applied.

i recommend a 75 gallon, as both of my friends oscars look so cramped in their 55 gallon tanks. If I was you I would get 75 gallon, as they seem to be alot more energetic in bigger waters.
