is it ok to ad common household bricks to an aqaurium? if it is i think it would look quite nice with moss and java moss to put on all the bricks so they arent so sharp... i love the idea of a big brick complex with all kinds of moss growing off of them.....
EDIT
i see aquariums on TV all the time that have cinder blocks and bricks in them... is this ok?

I dunno, sounds like and intresting Idea.
I'd guess not, because the use chemicals to maske cement, and most blocks are made out of cement.

True, and clay is found in natural rivers.
So I do not know, but I am intreated in finding out.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i really want to do this idea... in my cichlid tank.. i have SOOOO many extra bricks laying on the porch outside that i am DIEING to use...

I would make sure they are ok to use first, you don't want to put a heap of bricks in your tank and kill off all your fish, find out what the bricks are made of exactly, red bricks absorb water like a sponge over time and will be very heavy in your tank so make sure the tank and its stand can take the weight as well.

so... is that a YES? i can use red brick in my tank?

ooo o ya... and one time i heard that some ornaments are made of the same thing as bricks are.. (cinderblock type things... o ya and what about cinder blocks? theres really only one kind of cinder block if you ask me... :/

I know I've seen cinder blocks used, don't know about red bricks though.

You would need to talk to a bricklayer, or someone knowlegeable in the bulding trade who could tell you exactly what a particular brick is made of. Only then would you be be certain if it's safe or not. I think you may be able to use clay brick. Cut stone would certainly work, depending on the what it's made of. I would be careful about cinder blocks though. Seems to me they contain a cement of sorts, which would contain lime, which would cause an extreme raising of your pH.

ok well im gonna go ahead and try it, with no fish for the fish day, and watching the water peremeters VERY closely... and if it works out, i'll ad all the moss and my fish and i'll tell ya'll how it goes!
