I am really new to the fish stuff. how many neons can i fit in a 10 gallon tank. i think those are really cool. and what other fish can go with neon tetras.

This is a really great thread for picking out fish for a small tank: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=116208

The tricky thing about neons is that they tend to be kinda delicate, so you don't want to add them to a tank that isn't stable yet. So if you want them to be your main fish, definitely fishless cycle and make sure everything is testing consistantly before you add them. For a 10 gallon if you are overfiltered and have a good maint. routine you could have about 10 neons with no other fish. The minimum group size of neons should be 6.

I would like to know. i am getting a 10 gallon in like the second week in september. i would like to know when i get it and bring it home. is there certain steps that i have to do. i am a very beginner. and i would like advice. thnkx. i am planning to get like a group of neon tetras like 6 of them and some other neon lookiing fish. does anybody know if there is another kind of neon fish.

The first thing you do before adding fish to your tank is cycle the water (Let benificial bacteria develop in your filter). I prefer cardinal tetras to neon tetras. The fish are almost identical but on the neons the red line stops halfway down there body, on the cardinals the red line is the full length of there body. Groups of 5-6 are ideal for most tetras.

does any body know where i could find cardinal tetras. would they be availiable in petco or petsmart. i live in federal way washington, and would like some.

Cardinal tetras should be available in most fish stores
