My red jewels (three) were diagnosed by this forum with skin flukes. I have been treating them for the last 7 days with Intrepid Anti-parasite treatments (meant to be a 5 day course), and they have definitely improved but are not 100%.

- their fins and tails are not nearly as compressed
- their swimming has improved, but they still flick around showing irritation on their scales
- their appetite is improving and they all eat.

I am not sure whether to wait for a couple of days (no meds) and then start a 2nd course of treatment, or try Potassium Permanganate (?? maybe after a couple of days also / water change), or some other course of action ??

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Dianne.

what I'd treat skin flukes with is Sterazin by waterlife products.
you need to add carbon or zeolite to your filter for at least 24 hrs
before starting another medication (removing the carb/zeo before starting it.)

Sterazin i use that by waterlife when my fish had gill flukes and sadly it never touched them, there is a great product on the market but you need a certain ph for it to be any good.

Note
Do not use Gyrodactol if pH values are below 7 and carbonate hardness is below 8-10°d CH. Harden soft water correspondingly using JBL AquaDur plus. Use only half the dose for aquariums without ground and fittings.

I would only use Potassium Permanganate as a last resort, as you have to be very careful with it.
