after my usual water change today my golden barb has red and inflamed gills. any ideas as to what this could be??

yes from what ive read it does sound like gill flukes, ive started treatment with esha 2000 although this is a broad spectrum meds so not sure on the efficiency of it. . water stats are fine btw and id done a water change prior to seeing it so hopefully it will be ok. any other ideas would be welcomed. thanks

The meds no good for flukes as its bacterial, it treats gills but thats for bacterial gill rot.
I would go to the lfs and get the velvet med by interpet as a members says it treat gill flukes.

does it need to be treated anyway? will it just clear up eventually once the parasite dies???

They will need treating fast the parasite won't go till you kill them with a med.
They will distroy the gills and the fish will have an awful death, laboured breathing.
