Anyone working with Red Eyes blood swordtail? Are some strains infertile (beside lyretail)? There's too many new strains of blood swordtail lately and now there's blood platy and mollies too?! Must be hot trend for some aquarist. How you know if you have a fertile blood swordtail? There's few home bred ones around here these days since they were being import from China.

What is your opitions about red eyes blood swordtails?

I bought a pair the male died. Then I got a male of a different varity and the female still never had babies, the she picked on him so much that she killed him!! I would like to see the ped eyed red platied though. Wish they could make them as a dwarf platy!

I dont have them, but see a few at specialists auctions like BLA's in corby and nottingham (UK), aquabid.com would be the best place in the US.

They should not be infertile, even the hifin and lyretail lines breed true, they are just that bit harder to keep with the red eye red gene's.
I know Modaz has them as i got them for him last year.

Pretty fish, but also a right pain. I have one lyertail and she is aggressive. The sailfin and lyertails are very delicate fish IMO. Mine where always tearing up their fins, which take for ever to grow back. I also had problems with just too much finage  I had one that had a full sailfin and was lyertail. I loved her to death. But the fins where just too much for her IMO. I really wanted to cut them . They created a lot of drag and she had the habit of resting on the bottom.

i think i have the same prblem with my koi platies they seem infertile aswell, none of the males in my tank go near them

one has stayed normal size, but one is 4"+ and is still growing, even bigger than all my mollies!

they should be fertile, but lyretails which have long gonopodium's (anal fin) are impossible to breed from though.

i noticed that aswell, the koi gene is doing strange stuff, none of the females are dropping and the gonops are wrong looking on the males.

they are stunning fish though.

As halterskelter seid lyretails which have long gonopodium's (anal fin) are impossible to breed from.

You need to put normal males back with lyretail females
