Hey guys I had a couple questions for you about my new red ear slider which by the way is doing great. First, how long should the heat lamp be on, 24/7 or 12hours/day? and the second is how old do you think a red ear slider is if his carapace length is only 3cm (1.18" for you Americans)? I know its hard to tell but any guesses would be nice, so I can sort of say how old he is.

Hey toadfish.

The heat lamp shud only be on 12hours/day (thats the length of time i used to have mine on anyways). U have a UVB lamp dont you? just making sure.

I used to have a mississippi map and a river cooter, but i knew they would eventually outgrow my tank so i gave them away. I am no clue as to how old ur slider may be tho.

at 3cm, they are super cute lil crawlies! :hey:

No need to worry I have a UVB lamp, but thanks on behalf of turtles everywhere for checking. So without the heat lamp the turtles don't get to cold at night, or is it offset because during the day they need the heat for their metabolism where at night they don't? I don't no, just the curious biologist coming out in me.

Oh, and I do agree they are cute at this size, here's Winston...
