I don't know much about these fish, but how would it get along with an oscar, jack dempsey, and convict?

my 3 small red devils got on fine with convicts, my larger one got on fine with massive oscars. never tried them with JD, but as i bought them as 1" trio they are all larger now but only ever seemed to bother eachover... so unless anyone here has had fighting among these fish, give it a try, i reckon its the overall disposition of the fish, like oscars. some are just mean, whilst otehrs are friendly and co-operative. it varys from fish to fish

Red Devils are fine until they reach around 6inches. They then really need a tankof there own in my opinion. By reading the above two posts you would be led to believe they are peacfull Lol, far from it in my experience.

What size tank and other fish are you planning ?

Joel

my devil and gt hate eachovers guts always scrapping. i think it differs from fish to fish.

I don't know if I would try it...

is it a 6 foot tank?

Maybe if you got them all while they were 1''.. but if you're introducing them when they are large, you'll probably run into problems.

Its 48x18x28. I would get them all while small.

The tank is a bit small...Devils like lots of room for territory in a community tank, from what I've read. I have a red devil. I purchased him when I was a naive little fish lover and learned just how aggressive they actually are. The name of the fish says it all. Mine were around 3 inches with other assorted fish, and I ran into all sorts of aggression within a matter of days. Everything was fine for a few months then WAMO! I had dead fish everywhere. :S I took the two devils I had and put them in a tank together, only to discover the smaller devil in horrible condition the next day, and the fish, in spite of all my efforts, did not make it. Mine lives alone in his tank now. I wouldn't recommend in a tank of that size putting another cichlid, as mine killed fish of other kinds at 3 inches. Another cichlid freak recommended to me in conversation getting fish that have good protection and can stand some aggression, and I thought it was a good idea...non cichlid type of fish, such as a common pleco. Good luck with your fish. Although my devil is a pain in my rear, he is, I must admit, rather fun to have! They also grow very fast...keep that in mind. :)

A 4 foot tank should be ok if you have lots of hiding spots. Every fish has a public temperment but then you have the ones that are more easy going and the ones that just want to kill. If you have lots of hiding spots i would say give it a go but if you don't then i wouldn't reccomend it.

I still would not do it.. a 14'' fish that is as powerful as a red devil is going to kill whatever it wants no matter how many hiding spots you have in the tank.

Would definitely decimate an oscar.. I don't see a jack dempsey or convicts standing up to a RD either. I definitely wouldn't try it.. 4 feet is not enough space.

Yeah I've given up on that plan, but as I posted in another one of my threads, my new plan is an oscar, convict, firemouth, and serverum. My question is, is a serverum to docile to live with those 3 more aggressive fish?

I'm gonna say no.. severums are pretty good at holding their own.

When I tried to introduce my 4'' severum to my 5'' oscar, the severum constantly attacked the oscar. I removed the 4'' severum and added 2 2'' severums, and everything has been fine. I've also kept severums with convicts without any problems. Firemouths aren't too bad, so I wouldn't be worried about them with the severum.

I would be more worried about the oscar... some oscars can be nice, while others can be pretty mean.

Sounds like a good setup plan to me.
