Wet pets make the best Pets
Well the store isn't local to me, but is to my g/f. Well last night, being bored and likig to stop into the lfs to see if he got any new cool fish in (regurely stocks jardini arowana, gar's, rare koi). Well I headed right to the cichlid section as I always do and looked into one of the big 150 gallon display tanks (which houses roughly 8 to 10 med red devils, 1 med jack dempsey (who is always pissed and charcoal black, feel bad for him), 2 med shovel nosed cats, and one 10" common plec....way over stocked, but hey, you know, it's an lfs and their space is at a premium) anyways.... way off track... in their, apparently two of the devils paired up and layed eggs. Thy hatched about 1 week ago the owner stated and since then, the two devils had made the rest of the tank stuff into the back left corner and the couple controls the rest of the tank.
This isn't shocking behavior to me and shouldn't be to the owner of the lfs either, and I think it's cruel that he keeps them in there as it is not fair to the other fish. I have seen the large extra hospital tanks he has for some specialty fish in the back which he could easily transfer them back into but I think he is just purely lazy. He is ruining the rest of the fish in the tank as they continuiously nip eachother to control as much of the corner as posible and stand the occasional attack of the father devil. Granted...I thought it was very cute to watch the baby devils in with their parents and would love to buy the couple if I had space, but I think the owner should have acted quicker to move the parents with the eggs when they were first layed.
