I got 6 small black angels yesterday. I put them in a 29 g tank that I thought was cycled. amonia=o nitrites=o nitrates=5. The tank had 3 cory's in for abought a month.
After 1 day amonia=0 nitrites=2 and nitrates=20.
This morning I noticed the red blotch on some of the fish. ( between the gill plate and the pectoral fins)There is a considerable ph difference between my tank and the lfs. their ph was 7.0, mine is 8.0. I gradualy added water from my tank over a 40 minute time and did not release them untill the ph was within .1.
The fish seem fine and are eating well. I added some salt to help with the nitite spike and stress coat also.
What are the red blotches? Anything else I should do? thanks; Don T.

That was a big swing in ph didn't climatise them for long enough.
Are the gills red and inflamed, any flicking and rubbing, or laboured breathing.

Possible to load a pic up.
How much salt have you added as corys don't tolerate to much salt.

no rubbing. The spots are between the gill plates and the pectoral fins. On several it does go under the gill plate but on most it does not. Breathing is normal. My water is ph 7.6+/- but when you add the sand and stuff is goes on up to 8.0. This tank has white sand. (wallmart fish dept.) Typicaly my tanks are 7.5 to 7.8 ph.
I have tryed to control ph in the past and unless you use ro water and "make your own water" it's a wast of time. Thanks; Don T.

Right I think I would add a bacterial med as the water stats being slighly out won't be helping.

Thanks; I have had fish for years but Something new seems to come up every so often.

thanks; Don T.
