this morning i noticed a 1" gash running down the side of one of my pirahana.its quite deep and is open.i dont think it was caused by the others as its not the right type of wound.i removed a rock that may be responsable leaving just 2 large pieces of bogwood in there.anyway is there anything i should do to help it heal?meds maybe?it doesnt seem to be bleeding.or do i just leave it?

Do you know if this wound was caused by a sharp object or another fish? If so, then I would go ahead and treat the fish with melafix, which is good for open wounds and fin regrowth.

However, there is one much more serious possiblity, which would be an ulcer. How is the fish behaving? Is it eating? Is it active? What color is the edges of the wound? The reason this is more serious is because it is a bacterial infection and the fish will die without treatment.

http://www.fbas.co.uk/Ulcers.html has a few good pictures of ulcers.

the fish is eating and acting normally.im pretty sure its not an ulcer.i think hes just done it on a rock i have removed.im going lfs today i will get some melafix for the wound thx

How deep is the wound as if is really deep you will need more than melafix.

its healing well and faster than i thought :good: i tried to get a pic but its impossible.he has earned himself a name hes now Scar
