can we see pictures, as im not sure what you mean about red belly cichlids.

Looks stressed, you should try some water tests[ph, ammonia and nitrite are the most important imo] if it's not that is it new or being bullied?

just done a water test and the nitrite is a little high...dont know why it is for any reason it was all fine before i changed the fish into the new tank on friday just gone (27th) i put about 80% of the water from the old tank in the new tank and topped the rest up with fresh water with added aquasafe to make sure all chemicals are removed??? prehaps the filter is not workin properly??

whats your stocking?

also, have you just changed your tanks over?????

ok the stock is 2 red belly cichlids 2 dalmation mollys 2 dwarf puffas 1 siamese fighter 1 pair of killifish 1 hong kong plec and 1 brisstlenosed plec in a 96 litre tank not over stocked at all ide think?? and yes changed tanks friday just gone....had a look at the filter system and to my shock after 2 days of filtering the 1st white cotton filter was so clogged up with brown goo nothing was going though any bits of plant that are floating about were just spinning around in the bit where the filtrer an pump etc are but were not getting drawn toward the filter so removed it an gave it a good clean and any bits in the tank get drawn to the filter realy good so ime guessing that was causing the problem???

A hong kong plec is a Borneo Sucker. No really a plec at all. Dwarf puffers are brackish.
Its not too overstocked but the dwarf puffer may have to be rehomed. They need lots 'o salt. Plecs hate salt. Most fish hate it in large amounts.

1, yes boreno suckers are cold water fish (19deg) and shouldnt be kept in torpical tanks

2, not overstocked,

3, the dwarf puffers arent at all brackish. but they should be in a specie tank (tank on there own) because there aggressive little terrors! and can harm other fish.

4, i think your dwarf puffers could be stressing your fish. but also it could but stressed from the change over give it a week and i think itll be ok :) if not its the puffers

little update on the situation.....since the new tank set ups have been done for some reason the water and everything looks greeny brown so just out of curiosity i took everything out of my rekord 60 tank to see if the plants were effecting the light but it wasnt so then took out 3 gallons of water and my god was that water black. so down the sink that went and out come another 1.5 gallons then topped it all back up with frech water and the difference it made was unbelievable looks like a fish tank now rather than an old pond.......so anyway done the same on my community tank my rekord 96 but changed 6 gallons and again the difference in colour is soooo much better. i think the crap come from the new stones i added to the tank as i wasnt advised to wash them at all before i added them to the tank they just come in a clear plastic bag so do you think this excess crap in the water will stress the fish out and raise the nitrite levels??? which ime glad to say are coming down nicely sinde the water change and filter clean out. and also main thing i guess fish has perked up loads all of a sudden since last night swimming about the tank as normall.
