I have kept red-bellies before, but i was young and was more interested in watching them eat goldfish than taking care of them. now that i am a little more responsible i have decided to give it a go again. i am setting up a 55 gal tank and would love some advice from those of you that keep them succesfully. mainly interested in how many i can put in 55 gal, what you feed, what type of bottom covering, is driftwood ok, and any other basic info you can provide.

Yes i have checked the web, but when you have so many conflicting reports it's hard to know what to believe, so i figured you guys would be better to ask.

Thanks for any advice, i appreciate it, Jason

if you are talking about a red-bellied pacu, there is no way you can fit it in a 55 gal. they get to be two feet long or more. if you are talking about actual pirrhanas, i'm not sure.

AMS knows her piranhas- pm her! I also think you will find a pinned topic on piranhas in the cyprinids and characins forum. And that's where the experts hang out, so have a look around.

AMS is a he actually.

they need to be in shoals of 6 or more, needing a 125 gallon tank biggrin.gif
They need to be in a group of at least 4 and a 75 gallon tank is minimum.
