Hi folks, first post so please be gentle

Im looking to run a Shrimp only tank, could anyone who is doing this recommend a 15 - 20 litre tank that's good for this?
Preferably something with a lid.

Thanks for your help.

Hi. The aquacube tanks by superfish are pretty cool for Shrimps. Google them, but I think that they do a 15l and a 25l. I would go for the bigger one as it will be slightly easier to keep the levels constant. My LFS have a few set up and they have nice rounded corners for ease of viewing. Their filters are good aswell. I currently use them in my Shrimp tanks.

What Shrimp are you looking at keping in it?

An 18-20L tank would be fine for cherry shrimp as long as the filter is gentle and has a fine inlet so that the shrimplets don't get sucked up. Cherry shrimp will also quite quickly breed like crazy in a tank just for themselves, which is great if you have other tanks that you want to gradually add cherry shrimp to without losing all of your stock through predation. Some other shrimp how ever will need a larger tank, partily due to their size and partily due to the decreased water temp/ parameters that can fluculate quite a bit in a smaller tank that other shrimp species are not quite so forgiving about. I can't really help you on makes and models of tanks as I am in Australia and what we have available is differernt to what you will have in Edinburgh.

Try the aquaspace 20L by Aqua One, nice size tank and I'm acutally considering it for my betta myself atm. Alternatively theres the Arcadia Arcs and Arc Pods you could look at. The Fluval Chi looks nice but I've heard bad stuff about it and I'm not sure about the open top with the shrimp (I don't really have any experience in them). As well as this, they're pretty pricey. If you didn't mind a little bigger, the 30L Aquastart 320 is usually a pretty good little tank from what I've heard. I'd definitely stay away from all BiOrbs if I were you - I can't stand mine and I am desperate to get rid of it! They really are shockingly bad tanks, especially with their high price tags. There are also the AquaCubes too as someone else said, though I personally find they can be pretty expensive. PaH had a nice little 15L that could have been great for you a while back and was a bargain at only £30 with pretty much everything you needed included, but as far as I know from going to my local PaH store, they no longer sell them. I know Practical Fishkeeping was giving them away to new subscribers so maybe it was just a limited time thing for that.

Have a look at some of the fluval tanks. The fluval EBI is designed for shrimp.

Or just look on ebay and get a cheap 60l two foot long. That way they have lots of floor space and plenty of room for breeding.

It really doesn't matter in all honesty, any tank is suitable for shrimp and in fact you just need a very basic set up. Tank, lid, sponge filter, small heater(optional). Spend your money on shrimp, plants and decor, not some flashy set up. I bought Marina 5g tanks for my shrimp. Each tank was on sale for $11.00CAN at PetSmart and were fully loaded. The only thing I changed was the light because it was an incandescent bulb which I don't like because of the heat output.

Yes, it was a good little tank. Great for a Shrimp only setup!

However, I believe they are recalling all the lighting units from those tanks due to a technical fault.

Fluval Edge?

James.

my fluval ebi is great at 30L :D
