So I had a problem with my setup because I had a hang-on biofilter for my tank but the lighting setup that I bought will not allow the filter be to a hang-on type, so my question to you all is what type of filtration unit should I think about buying. My tank is setting on my dresser so I have no room above or below my tank, but I have room on the sides of the tank. What do you all recommend? Canister? Wet/dry? Anything?

What size tank? Powerhead and liverock is your filtration SH

I have a 55g tank with about 65 lbs. LR and 30 lbs. LS. I know this is my filtration but isn't it necessary to have some more filtration?

Any other filtration besides LR/LS will cause excessive nitrates.

The only other 'filtration' to consider is if you need a place to put some media...like a phosphate binder or ChemiPure. Some people will put an AquaClear HOB filter on their smaller marines but remove everything...beads, balls, sponges, etc and just keep media in there. SH
