Recommendations For A 15 Gallon Tank

Can anyone recommend some plants that would go well with my current setup. I'm looking for plants that will do well with sand and would be some good beginner plants that are pretty easy to take care of. Currently, I have 6 small Tiger Barbs in there which will be moved eventually to a bigger tank once they get bigger.

Is this a 15g high or long? From the looks of it, it's like mine, a 15g. What kind of lighting do you have? What kind of bulb, fluorescent or incadescent? What is the wattage in the bulb?
