Hi there.

I heard the the Elite Stingray 10 filters were rubbish, so il only be using mine until the cycles complete and then be getting a new filter. So recommend me a new one. The filter must be:
  • Small
  • Quiet
  • Efficient
  • Suitable for a 35L Freshwater Aquarium
  • Able to take the filter media etc from the stingray
Do your best. Remember it must fit the criteria above.

A please would have been nice!

Anyways, the Elite Stingrays are good filters... I would stick with what you have to be honest. Failing that you could go for a Fluval 1 Plus.

Really?

I saw at least 2 people in one post slating them on another forum...

So my fishies will be okay with this filter when i get them? Was only thinking of them. It seems to be working okay but was worried when all i seen were bad posts about it.

Thanks

Max. :)

I thought they were really neat filters, and as long as you had the correct filter size on your tank your good to go. It may also depend on what type of fish your getting too.

Yeah i just compared the flow rates of the fluval and stingray and the stingray comes out on top. Hmm

I have a 35L aquarium, about 51cm long, 31 cm deep and 30 cm high.

I plan to keep some honey dwarf gourami's, some tetras and a few small peppered corydorus

If you let your tank cycle then take out the stingray and add a new filter, you'll have to cycle your tank again unless you run them both at the same time, but even then you'll have to let the bacteria build up on the new filter for several weeks.

Never used a stingray but they look cool :) I have a 1 plus in a 25ltr tank and its ok, but needs cleaning quite often. Its much more simple than the rest of the fluval internal range (no positional flow, now adjustable flow rate, much more simple filter sponge etc). It works fine, and is nice and quiet but I wouldn't say it was anything special.

Another advance of the Stingray over the Fluval is that they Stingray has split sponges, meaning changing the sponges is a alot easier and safer. The Fluval plus 1 requires you the cut the sponge in half to save some of the filter bacteria.

So does that mean once you come to change the sponge, only change one part, then change the other part a few weeks later?

Also when cleaning the sponge, you rinse it in the water youve took out of the tank dont you?

I pretty partial to Aquaclear filters myself... they're Silent, easy to maintain, and they keep my tanks crystal clear... Mind you I always use extra filtration on my tanks... For instance my 29gallon has an aquaclear 50 on it along with a hang on the back canaster filter... Another good one is any Biowheel filter...

Tank water for cleaning the sponge, yes. Never change the whole sponge; you'll be throwing away the bacteria that have built up. Also, ignore the manufacturer's instructions about replacing the sponge so often. They want you to keep buying their products. I don't replace any filter medium until it's almost falling apart.

lol i use the fuval 205 external filter, and thats the best filter i ever had, :D
