Just wanted to say to anyone who hasn't got a hospital/quarantene tank then get one. I decided to get one and already it has paid off. 3 weeks after getting it one of my golden barbs was sinking like a stone and made horrible quivers when it tried to swim. I just poured my main tank water into hospital tank and changed 25% of it as it went in. Tank was bare minimum with just plastic plant for hiding. treted fish with anti bacterial infection for 2 weeks and on the 3rd week he is now back in the main tank and as normal.

The quaratene tank saved me using large amounts of treatment ie 20 lts tank as opposed to 250ltr tank. Kept treatment away from fish that were healthly. Esp my Clown Loaches.

So anyone who hasn't got one I would say get one.

Makes life a lot easier when things start going wrong

I'll second that alex
I've just got one as well and it does save a lot of worry. I guess you could manage with just a small heater and filter and use a bucket for an emergency, but it is best to be able see the fish well to check on progress.
I am hoping that having the same kind of filter as I have running in the small tank will help with regard to quickly getting a tank set up as I can swap half the filter sponge over for the hospital when necessay.

Thanks for the advice. I am currently setting up a Quarantine/Hospital tank for treatments and new fish. It's almost a neccesity from what i've been told.

i currently dont have a quarantine tank but im seriously considering it.

does it need to be a tank with a heater and filter?
i can buy them plastic kiddy tanks with a filter for about £15 from pets at home... will this do the job? i guess the water needs to be warm doesnt it. whats the cheapest way to set up a quarantine tank? hate to sound cheap but moneys a bit tight comin up to xmas B)

Quarantine tank is the way to go.
Been caught out myself and paid the price.
