Hi, I haven't had a fish tank is almost 16 years. So, I am learning everything over again. I have a 10 gallon tank that I just set up today. Just have a few questions that I have been having troubles finding answers too.

Would live plants be safe in a 10 gallon or would it be more difficult to keep? I know that they can be more work. I wanted to do a mix of fake and live plants.

Also, my son decided to pick off the silicone off of one corner on the outside of the tank. There are no leaks or anything but should I be worried about this? I don't remember my tanks having as much excess silicone as this one does but mine were all hand me downs and this was about 16 years ago so my memory is probably something that shouldn’t be rely on, lol.

I am also having a hard time making a decision on what I want to put in the tank. Any suggestions, for me it’s been between guppies or fan tail gold fish. With a 10 gallon I am not sure if either of those are good ideas.

The tank is also sitting on a dresser next to a television. Would that have any effect on the fish? I know that is probably a ridiculous question but I figured I better ask before we add any fish to the tank.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this, looking forward to seeing people answers.

Hi, :hi: to the forum

Goldfish really shouldn't be kept in 10 gallon tanks so I think the guppies would be your best be.
Live plants should be fine, the amount of work and plants you can have depend on whether you want to go high or low tech (add CO2 or not).
As long as there's no leaks then the tank should be fine.
The TV might be a bit noisy for the fish but as long as you don't spray aerosols like fly spray etc. they should be fine.

Also, before you add any fish, please, cycle your tank, fishless preferably. For pretty much all the info you need, check out the Beginners Resource Centre in my signature.

Hope this helps, if you have anymore questions then feel free to ask :)

Yes that did! Thank you so much.

Only thing with plants in a 10 gal. are the same with fish. Don't go for biggies. Amazon swords, Vallis, et cetera. But there are plenty of great plants to pick from.
Yes some may need extra trimming, but live plants can't be beat.
Agree do a fishless cycle first. A pain with kids, but much better for your fish.
Also if you want something fancy, a 10 gal. is a great size for a Betta.
