i see, ive just covered the tank for a black out.
i just read this in another forum "Err............adding antibiotics is not going to cure the Hygro..........

Is there anyone that wants to argue that it will?

Blackout just kills it, preventing it from coming back is up to you.
Seems like poor CO2.
DIY CO2 and Hygro will show up like that and generally the faster growing plants are the ones most affected.

You need more flourish(5x as much), you need to stay on top of the CO2, you also need to add KH2PO4 for PO4 source, likely Mg as well.
Light: 10 hours only.

You have several things going on but folks still wanna offer the pills to cure things without addressing your plant's nutrition which is still bad advice

Blackout and KNO3 are not going to cure all these issues for BGA, nor is any pill, it'll just delay things till you get another species of algae of more BGA.

By addressing the plant nutrition entirely and CO2, then you kill the algae, clean it out etc, then it does not come back.

Adding KNO3 assume you have addressed these other issues, clearly you have not, so try that first, then remove the BGA, do a blackout or pills, then keep up on things.

Tom Barr"

is this algae brought on by the fact im not dosing anything and im not running co2?
can any one help me draw up a list of things i need to buy to get ontop of my dosing, i know i need it, i just dont know what, how and when.
im about to go set up a diy co2 unit for when i finish the black out

day one of the blackout done, im dreading what state its going to be in afterwards. total replant of everything me thinks

The AE traces work fine and are what I use. You'll probably find after the blackout the tank looks really clean and the plants have grown quite a bit. Just go easy turning the lights back on as fish don't have eyelids like us.

i went for all AE powders in the end which fingers crossed should arrive by the time i finish the black out. the reason im dreading it mainly is that my shrimps are super unhelpful and like to unplant my hc ALL THE TIME thats what my avatars all about :p
ps. i dont have any fish yet, waiting to see what catches my eye at the time could be endlers could be neons but no more than 8

not being able to look at your tank makes you anxious :(
only day 2 and i want to look already
i hope my plants are ok
more importantly i hope my shrimp are fine. my berried female was heavy when i got her she might have dropped, i need to do a water change, and check my levels *panic" i hope nothings dead,

haha this is what fuels wanting to look, so, 4 days you say? that'll be monday night i can take the sleeping bag off, i hope everythings fine cant wait to change the water, was due a 50% change today

Black out over and im totaly free of bluegreen :)
Downside is that i now have very very little HC and HM as its all melted :( my E tennelus is going well though :)
Started to does ferts too, added KNO3 K2PO4 and MGSO4 and fitted diy CO2 so i should be free from BGA from now on :)
While i was at it i did a huge replant, retied my moss and pelia and tried to get everything looking neat and tidy, failed.
Adding insult to injury my lightbulb has blown and its only a week or so old, im disaster prone it would seem, off to aquaessentials to get a replacement :(
