my tank is a 50l and the stats are:
Ammonia 0
NitrAte 10ppm
Nitrite 0
PH 8
Heated to 79 degrees F

My stocking is:
2 small danios
6 cardinal tetra
2 male guppies

and i did have 2 dalmation mollys - 1 male and 1 female

yesterday the male molly died. :(

I did a 25% water change yesterday morning and a 50% water change very late last night - no change in the stats.

today the female molly gave birth (we found 4 so far) and then died :(

I have the 4 fry in a small fry net, and have got them some fry food.

However, if the mollys are not surviving in my tank (why???) what are the chances of the fry surviving also?

And if anyone can shed light on why my mollys have both died I would be very grateful. All my other fish seem just fine.

Happy christmas everyone.

how long did you have the mollys?

i'm guessing that your tank is 100% freshwater? do you know if the mollys have been bred, kept in freshwater before you had them? chances are that they were kept in water with a slight salt content before you had them and they have struggled to adjust to the water in your tank.

However, if the mollys are not surviving in my tank (why???) what are the chances of the fry surviving also?

this may be a question for the livebearers section, but i would think that if the fish is born into feshwater it should be more likely to survive than a molly that was born in saltwater and transferred to freshwater, could be wrong though so you may want to wait for a better answer here

mollys require reguular water changes. how offter and how much do you do in a water change.
were the fish acting normaly before death, any external signs on the fish like wonds, dammage to fins, bloating because mollys are prone to internal paracites like camallanua. the PH might be a bit high for Mollys, but mu Platys (also livebearas) are happy in 8.2PH.
do you know your GH and KH in mg/l or degrees (mg/l because some kits (like my hagen one) give the result in that, times the result by 0.056 to get degrees)

have a merry christmass and a new year full of health and opitunitys
