This is Really Weird, my friend has just noticed I`ve got a fish in my Tank , The tanks brand new, he must of come from the gravel I got from my Friends Piranha Tank Yesterday but he only had Piranha`s in the tank ? I can`t get hold of him but he did say a while back he had some bottom feeding fish that got eaten after a while but he never saw them anyway, could it be an egg of some sort thats just hatched ?

The pics are terrrible I`ll try and get a better one but the fish is tiny about 12mm, I`ve tried putting some food in but he`s got no chance of getting it, what should I do ? and what is it ?

crush some flae food really really fine and put that in

Ok i`ll try it , I`ve just started a fishless cycle and my ammonia levels are 5ppm I don`t suppose he`s got much chance ?

Spoken to my mate and he seems to think it must be Piranha fry as it can`t be much else I`ve looked at some pictures and it does look very similar I imagined the fry to by similar to the adult.

I`d like to help him as he`s my first fish ! would one of those little divider box things help to keep him in ?

Get yourself a 5 or 10 gallon tank or a large plastic container, get some fresh gravel or filter media from your friends tank and keep the fry in there, you'll have to do small water changes every day or too to keep the waste levels down until your small tank cycles, but this way you can fishless cycle your bigger tank without damaging him. though he may have already been burnt by the ammonia if its at 5, this will give him his best chance.

I got a load of gravel from the Piranha Tank anyway which I`ve put in my filter , I could take that out and use an old perspex box as I tank and do 30% water changes everyday ?. Maybe place the mini tank on top of the large one to heat it ? It`s all I can think of.

Like I say my ammonia levels are 5ppm and my PH is 8.2 so I don`t think he`ll last long
He did chew on a small piece of flake last night and is still ok this morning.

We seem to think it`s a Red Piranha Fry but not totally certain.

You could use something like Ammonil or anti-ammonia rock to keep the levels down, but you'll have to get it out of the cycling tank for that.

Why not clone your friends tank?
You've already got some of his gravel, you might be able to get some of his filter material as well to go in your filter. With gravel and filter media from an existing tank your tank is pretty much instantly cycled. Pretty pointless, but might make you feel better, you could also add some of his water to your tank. Just make sure it stays wet in tank water and put it in your tank as soon as you get home, should be alright then.

Really hope the little one will survive =)
