i know ive posted about this a couple of times before, and i thought i had got rid of it- obviously not :(
latest victims are my first ever guppy fry, old enough to be put in the main tank i plopped them in. I left them a few days and then had to go away yesterday. Came back, one dead the other near enough. i have put the ill one in mt QT tank, but since no other fish has lived once getting this i dont expect to see her alive tomorrow.

so basically this disease or whatever it is, moves extremely fast in killing the fish. It started when i bought a load of fish online for my tank when it was cycled. I know stupid me bought too many at one time and didnt quarantine them before adding them. So it came in on one of the harlequins i bought. I didnt think it would pull through so i put it down. Ever since then ive had fish die randomly from it, within 2 days of catching it.

I cant remember exactly how many fish ive lost from it, since i didnt make the connection at first that it was all the same symptoms. Id say over 10 fish in the last 6 months. Whatever fish gets it, doesnt show any symptoms untill one morning i the fish cant swim, floats at the surface with its fin rotting away. Whatever it is, it usually kills the fish within a few hours of me finding them like that.

I really need some help, is this disease in the water and just attacks any fish that it can randomly? Or is it my fault,l am i doing something that makes it keep coming back? what actually is it?

thanks so much to anyone who can help

What have you tried so far? Is it possible that the fish becomes sick and others nip at the fins? Or do you think the fins rot without any picking by other fish?

Fin rot is usually a bacteria that sets in after an injury. It can be associated with overstocking and poor water quality. The part about the fish floating, can't help you there. But you might look into a fin rot medication.

thanks for your reply, i havent tried anyy medication on it as i havent been able to work out what it is, and dont want to make matters worse by adding a medicine that doesnt help.
for the fins, im pretty sure its the disease that rots the fins, its only ever the tail fin and i had a mail guppy whos tail completely dissapeared in 6 hours in a tank by himself.
i had one platy which i thought had the same disease but didnt have the fin rotting part, and treated with swimbladder, which helped and shes now in perfect health. im treating my single guppy fry with swimbladder right now, so ill soon see if that helps at all.
thanks again
