I know this is probably a really dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyways because I've never had guppies. Will guppies and swordtails cohabitate peacefully? I've got 5 of the hi fin lyretail swordies, 3 hi fin swordies and 2 regular swordies plus 2 Cory cats in my 55 gallon. There are also 2 female bettas but they are moving out to a different tank. I want to add something else to the tank and was thinking about some guppies. The swordies are the most amusing fish I've ever had so if I add something else it has to get along with them. The bettas are moving because they've gotten too seroius lately and are always breaking up the swordies fun. The swordies like to form 2 lines at the bottom of the tank and then they start playing leapfrog - it's the funniest sight. I know I should have more Corys but I had to move 3 of them over to my grow out tank to help with cleanup. I thought about Platys but I don't want them interbreeding with the swordies. Any suggestions other than guppies?

Um i find my high fin swordtails are semi aggressive(dunno if they're all like that) and like to charge my tetras, but i found the female sword didnt bother the guppies at all, only the male would constantly harass them. So just to play it safe i wouldn't go with guppies and you also have alot of live bearers so if u were to get guppies you would have tons of fry appearing(unless that what u want).
Maybe try danios? But they need to be in groups of 4 or more.

Hi Polardbear,

I have a swordtail and guppies all in the same tank, they get along just fine, the swordtail hangs out with them actually and is not aggressive towards them in any way :)

As snowyangel said, if you were to get guppies then you will get lots of babies so the decision is up to you

You can get some kind of tetra :dunno: They like to be groups as well.

I keep swordtails with guppies and they get along great. :) I've never had a problem with keeping them together.

I've noticed that my hi fin lyretail females are somewhat more agressive than my regular swordies as well. Or at least one of them is, she can be real nippy, especially towards the one hi fin female.

I don't mind fry, in fact that's probably why I like the livebearers so much. I love watching the little guys grow up.

My water is a little on the hard and alkaline side, can Tetras handle that? I wouldn't mind a small school of something colorful.

No offense to the Danios lovers, but Danios don't really do anything for me.

My Swords and Tetras get along great, it is as if they do not even know the others are there. I think that the black widows are a lot more amusing then the others since they chase each other constantly. They are not all that colorful though, just plain old black and silver.

I've kept platies and mollies together and they got along great. Granted these are not exactly the same but platies are closely related to swords and mollies are closely related to guppies so I would imagine that their interation would be similar.
