Hello all,

I have a mild sized room, that I would like to put an aquarium in. Perhaps a 10 or maybe 15 gallon tank. I've currently got a small 30 litre (6 UK gallons) tropical tank in my bedroom and that is going fine. But I think that saltwater fish seem a lot more colourful and more unusual. So therefore, I would like this new tank to be saltwater or brackish (what ever that is :S) Is brackish easier to keep than saltwater?

The only thing is...

I have absolutley no idea how to maintain them, set them up, clean them or anything! I'm familiar with a tropical tank but is saltwater any different? I know its a big question to ask but could someone tell me the essential bits to know bout saltwater tanks? Do you need a heater, or is it coldwater? Is it just a tropical tank with salt in the water?

Oh yeah, and I would like to keep in there some form of pufferfish, I don't want a dwarf one, but I don't want a massive one either, as I want the tank to be quite small, what pufferfish would anyone suggest? I quite like Green Spotted Puffers, or a Valentine Puffer. How big does the tank have to be for me to keep one? And most important; can I mix other fish with them, like boxfish or something?

I'm starting to consider dwarf puffers, how big do they grow?

Thanks ever so much for any reply's, I really need help!

Regards

George

To tell u the truth I think in your case forum wont be a big help now.
I am the beginner myself and had my 28 gal tank for only 5 month I think.
It takes lots of time to have one fully loaded mine is very empty

half a year ago I came to this forum and start asking questions, (now I think they were so stupid).
I got answers but I was still very confused, I read this book first
http://www.amazon.com/New-Marine-Aquarium-...6501&sr=8-1

its a small book but its really gives u a picture atleast what exactly to sk people on the forum.
What skimmers is better, filter and etc.

My advice, read it first and u will get the picture. There are lots of things to know.

To begin with I would advice u to go with the Berlin system (LiveRocks and Skimmer) it really works for me.
Still learning how to grow corals but its all will come.

Also as bigger u get tank as better as easier to keep water stable but more expensive.
Also if u have space get it with sump, I would love to have one but no place to hide it.

Take care

Those fish can live fine in a twenty gallon when young, but a thirty gallon or more will be best long term. They can be kept with most other fish, but boxfish (Ostraciidae) are a poor choice in my opinion, as they can poison the tank if stressed.
