Really Angry Female

I have had Heidi for about a year and a half and she was always very happy. Recently, however she is flaring at me, I know that females don't flare as males do, but you can tell she is pissed off!! Even if i go up to her tank and wiggle my finger at her, or even just look at her she comes up flaring at me. (makes her look like mickey mouse or an ewok)

I don't know why her temperment has changed so drastically, I haven't don'e anythign different with her other than move from her my dresser to the bookshelf, then back to the dresser. I don't know why she is suddenly so mean.

I know this may sound silly, but does anyone have a clue as to why she is like this?

Dunno... maybe now that she's older, she's crankier? or is she constipated?

She is not larger than normal. She is eating fine.

Hmmm thats a bit odd, I don't know, maybe its just old age lol, old crotchity bettas!! lol

I have no idea, she is just really bitchy. it started about two weeks ago, i thought at first she just didn't want to be bothered, but now it is everytime i go near her tank. Although I must say, those little ears she gives me are pretty darn cute

Have you perhaps been feeding her right after she flares at you? I trained my bettas to flare when I come by that way.

Aliens have abducted your fish and replaced it with an evil clone. This happens sometimes, unfortunately. I'm afraid I don't know of any treatment for this condition.

Yeah..my female bettas do that to me too, but the reason why they do that is because its natural...they get older and think that they can boss around now...they think that they are ready to mate since you've already had her for about a year and a half now....if you do mate her then she will flare a lot to the male...she just wants to learn how to protect her own territory too just like the males do.

I don't feed her after she does it to me, i sometimes just stick my tongue out at her and walk away lol.

But she does it anytime i come near her tank. She won't flare at a mirror or other bettas.

I think Synirr is right, my little angel is gone and is replaced with a devil

Do females have the gill flaps like the males do when they flare? because heidi had some last night when she was mad at me

they must, because hers now comes down. It is so cute but it is getting a little bleh as she continues to be like this
